With a few exceptions, most of the changes in the PSP 6's Text Entry Dialog Box [TEDB] are cosmetic. The font NAME, STYLE and SIZE boxes have changed to drop down boxes and a few of the option locations have changed. The SAMPLE Box size has been reduced and the TEXT ENTRY area has been increased. There are three major additions to the TEDB. They are:
Vector/Raster: You can now choose what type of text you want to render, RASTER or VECTOR. If you leave the VECTOR option unchecked, the text will be created as RASTER. If you check the VECTOR option, the text will be created as a vector object. You then have the option to create the text on a curved path rather than on a straight line. You can also use the other Vector node editing tools on vector text objects. Text Color: You can now select the text color from within the TEDB. To make color [or other] changes to your text, you must first highlight one or all of the letters you want to change. Each letter or a group of letters can be a rendered in a different color. Only the current background [BG] and foreground [FG] colors and one other color swatch are shown in the TEDB. To access more colors from the TEDB, right click in the unnamed color swatch [located to the right of the BG and FG colors.]. This shows your 20 most "RECENT COLORS". From there, click on the "OTHER" button to gain access to the entire current palette. Note: Selected/highlighted text will be rendered in whatever color appears in the unnamed color swatch to the right of the BG and FG color swatches. Leading/Kerning: New in PSP 6 are options for leading [pronounced "ledding"] and kerning. Leading refers to the amount of vertical space between lines of text. Kerning refers to the amount of horizontal space between each letter. To change the kerning value, first highlight or select the letters or groups of letters then change the kerning value. To change the leading value you must click at the end of the line [so the cursor is blinking but the text is not selected] then change the leading value. A positive number increases the amount of space, a negative number decreases the amount of space. Auto Kern is the default value for each font. Note: Leading and Kerning distances will not show up in the Text Entry window. To see the amount of leading/kerning you have applied, you must render the text on an image. |
