Creating Web Graphics With Paint Shop Pro

Lesson 1 Assignment: Introducing Web Graphics & PSP

Hot Pink Background
White Foreground [1 KB]

Radial Gradient ImageAligned Left [2 KB]
I used the "Flood Fill" tool set to:
Style: Radial Gradient
Tolerance: 8
Match mode: RGB Value

Aligned Center [2KB]
Rad Grad Image With Circle Deformation
To Radial Gradient Image, I applied the "Circle" Deformation" then...

Aligned Right [2KB] Rad Grad Image With Pentagon Deformation
the "Pentagon" Deformation

In my opinion, aligning images and text is much easier to do using tables for layout as seen here:
Rad Grad Image Skewed To the Radial Gradient Image,
I applied the "Skew" Deformation" [2KB]
then added some text, cropped it and linked it to Andy's Homepage! [4KB]

Rad Grad Image Skewed With Text

Hey, I didn't know I could do such neat stuff with Paint Shop Pro!

But I guess I better figure this "ALIGN=RIGHT" attribute out for browsers that don't support tables...Here we go:

Here's another image using "medium bricks" pattern, buttonized and linked to Andy's page with no link borders showing [using the "BORDER=0" attribute in the image tag]

C o o l ! You can paint pink bricks [and other neat patterns] with one smooth stroke!

But I just can't seem to get the text to align anywhere but the top of the image when there is more than one line of text. Does that dog gone "ALIGN" attribute apply to the image or the text?????

Just for kicks, I converted the Radial Gradient JPG Image [2 KB]:
Rad Grad Image in JPG Format

to a GIF:
Rad Grad Image converted to GIF The file size doubled to 4 KB and some dithering occurred. Since there is no need to "transparentize" this image, the jpg format seems the most reasonable choice for displaying this image on the web.

When converted to TIF format...the file size grew to 14 KB and as a BMP, it became a whopping 30 KB!

Gradients & Shapes
Here's a link to another image I created that shows different shapes with various gradients and colors applied. It's 15 KB so I thought I would let you look at it as a download image. You can also click on the "thumbnail image" [3.5 KB] to the right to view the image. I wasn't real happy with the quality of this image, although I learned more about what PSP can do from creating it.

That's it for this week. I learned alot from this lesson and expanded my knowledge of what PSP can do by creating these images and this page. I had a little trouble with the "BR=LEFT, RIGHT AND CLEAR" tags but I experimented a bit with them. I am not quite sure they are used correctly. I hope I get my book early next week so I can catch up on my reading and get a start on next week's lesson before I leave on Thursday for Whitehorse, Yukon Territory Canada to exhibit my dog Beamer, in two United Kennel Club Obedience Trials. See you all when I return!
